The city of San Antonio is the second largest city in Texas as well as the second largest city in the country. The city is located around South Texas, and is a geographical and cultural gateway into the southwestern States—namely California, Utah, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
The city, San Antonio, was name after St. Anthony, who was a Portuguese traveling onboard a Spanish expedition and stopped in the area in the year 1961. St. AnthonyÂ’s feast day is celebrated on June 13.
The city of San Antonio is proud of its strong military independence. It is home to a number of US military bases, including Camp Bullis, Brooks City-Base, Randolph Air Force Base, Lackland Air Force Base, and Fort Sam Houston. ThatÂ’s quite a number of military installations sitting in a single city.
San Antonio is famous for its tall skyscrapers. The weather is hot in the summer and mild to cool in the winter, but it doesnÂ’t get too cold out that youÂ’ll need to wear ear muffs during winter. For the record, the highest temperature ever recorded was 43.8 C while the lowest was -17.7 C.
