The name of the county is from a single, large spring which is located in the base of Scenic Mountain—which neighbors the Signal Mountain, and other hills in located in the Southwestern area of the city. However, the big spring which the county derives its name from has been long dry, and is now modified by man to get waters from the Comanche Trail Lake.
