Beeville is an American city in Texas, specifically Bee County, United States. As of the 2000 census, the population has reached 13,129. Beeville is the county seat of Bee County, and houses the community college of Bee County College.
The look of Beeville itself is the brainchild of William Charles Stephenson. Stephenson is an architect and designed many of the buildings in Beeville. He came to Beeville from the city of Buffalo, New York.
The story of Beeville goes like this. The site where the city can be found these days was first settled by the Hellerman, Caroll and Burke families in the 1830s. Maryville was the cityÂ’s first name after Mary Hellerman. But afterwards it was renamed to Beeville after the Secretary of the State and Secretary of War for Texas, Bernard E. Bee, Sr.
BeevilleÂ’s first post office opened in 1859.
Beeville played an important role during World War II. The Beeville Naval Air Station trained Navy airplane pilots from 1943 to 1946, after which the station closed when the war closed. In 1952, it reopened as the NAS Chase Field. The station was closed down for good in 1992.
