Anderson Mill
Anderson Mill is a small and peaceful suburban community between the counties of Travis and Williamson, near Austin. Anderson Mill derived its name from a literal mill found in the area: Thomas Anderson's mill. Thomas Anderson is a member of the Confederacy who moved from Virginia to Texas and build a mill to produce gun powder for the army. After the war, the powder mill became a gristmill, and then added with a cotton gin. Anderson mill began as a collection of families who worked for Thomas Anderson. From 1870s up to the 1890s, Thomas Anderson's mill and gin were in full operations and in these years the population of the community continuously grew. In 1894, however, Anderson died, his family decided to sell the business, and the development of the community halted and died.
Anderson Mill is very quiet and presents an aura completely opposite from the hustle and bustle of Austin city. In the recent years however many commercia establishments were built in several areas, showing rapid signs of urbanization led by Austin's annexation. Anderson mill is the ideal place for people who want to live in a laid back and simple life close to scenic environments. Still the comforts and modernities of high tech and sophisticated existence can't be missed in as much as Austin is just several minutes of driving away.
