Anderson-Bedias
Anderson-Bedias are two separate cities often combined into one because of their smallness, similarity, and proximity. Anderson City is originally called Fanthorp, derived from Henry Fanthorp who became the first Postmaster of the city. In 1845 however, Texas Vice President Kenneth Anderson died in the the very house that Henry Fanthorp had built and lived in, resulting to the change of the city name in Anderson's honor. Anderson is incongruously being called a city because the population never reaches more than 400 people. In the recent 2000 census, there are only 257 residents living in the area. What is interesting to note here is Anderson also serves as the seat of the Grimes County that consists of bigger cities with bigger population, not the least among them, Bedias.
Bedias is another small suburban city next to Anderson. Bedias derived its name from the Bidai Indians who lived there and discovered the abundance of unique glass rocks which they called Bediasites. Bedias began to emerge as a community with the foundation of Thomas Phiney Plaster's plantation in the 1830s. Several years after, families started to multiply, a post office was built together with its wave of establishments—banks, churches, stores, commercial establishments. Just like Anderson, the population of this mini city never hit 500. In the recent 2000 census, there are only 435 permanent residents in Bedias.
